Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy
Generative Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy
1. Introduction
The advancement of Generative AI has significant implications for research and publication practices. Our journal is committed to ensuring that the use of Generative AI in research adheres to the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and integrity. This policy outlines the expectations and requirements for the use of Generative AI in submissions to our journal.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to our journal that involve the use of Generative AI in any aspect of the research process, including but not limited to data analysis, writing assistance, experimental design, and interpretation of results.
3. Transparency and Disclosure
- Declaration of AI Use: Authors must clearly disclose the use of Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in their research and/or manuscript preparation. This includes specifying the Generative AI tools, algorithms, or software used and their roles in the research process.
- Generative AI Contributions: Any section of the manuscript generated or significantly influenced by Generative AI should be explicitly indicated. Authors must ensure that the use of Generative AI does not compromise the originality and intellectual contribution of the research.
4. Ethical Considerations
- Bias and Fairness: Authors must identify and mitigate potential biases in Generative AI algorithms to ensure that their use does not reinforce or exacerbate existing biases.
- Data Privacy: The use of Generative AI must comply with relevant data protection laws and ethical standards. Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI tools are used in ways that protect the privacy and confidentiality of individuals.
- Human Oversight: Generative AI should support—not replace—human judgment. Authors retain full responsibility for the content, accuracy, and integrity of their work.
5. Accuracy and Reliability
- Validation and Verification: Authors must validate and verify the outputs of Generative AI tools used in their research. This includes robustness checks and ensuring the reproducibility of AI-generated results.
- Documentation: Authors must provide comprehensive documentation of AI methods, including source code, training data, and parameter settings, to allow replication and verification of the findings.
6. Intellectual Property and Authorship
- Authorship Criteria: Only individuals who meet the standard criteria for authorship, based on their intellectual contributions, may be listed. Use of Generative AI tools does not qualify for authorship.
- Attribution: Proper credit must be given to the developers and sources of AI tools and datasets used. Authors should cite relevant literature and acknowledge contributions as appropriate.
7. Misuse of AI
- Plagiarism Detection: The journal uses AI-based tools to detect plagiarism and ensure the originality of submissions. Authors using AI to generate content without proper disclosure or attribution will face appropriate actions, including manuscript rejection.
- Fabrication and Falsification: Using Generative AI to fabricate or falsify data, results, or any component of the research is strictly prohibited and may result in serious consequences, including retraction of published articles and a ban from future submissions.
8. Review and Monitoring
- Peer Review: Manuscripts involving the use of Generative AI will be subject to rigorous peer review, including assessment by reviewers with expertise in AI to ensure ethical and methodological integrity.
9. For reviewers and editors:
- For reviewers: The use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools is strictly prohibited during the review process. Manuscripts are considered confidential documents and must not be uploaded to any generative AI tool (either in whole or in part). Reviewers are also prohibited from using generative AI or AI-assisted tools to write the review report.
- For editors: Using generative AI and AI-assisted tools is not completely allowed in the editorial process of the journal. Manuscripts are considered confidential documents and must not be uploaded to any generative AI tool (either in whole or in part). The editors must not use any generative AI or AI-assisted tools for any of the procedures related to the editorial process, even when writing any letter or notification related to manuscripts.
Our journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity in the peer review and editorial processes and encourages reviewers and editors to do the same, safeguarding authors’ rights and ensuring that their manuscripts are protected from any risk of privacy violations.
10- Policy Updates: This Generative AI policy will be reviewed and updated regularly to reflect technological developments and evolving ethical standards in the use of Generative AI in research.
